Who do we love?
Someone suggested that we should love gay people. I was kinda shocked, because… well, doesn’t that go without saying? Apparently not. So, I created a graphic to answer the question “who do we love?”
Then somebody else pointed out that I left out the atheists, so I remade it. Note: this is, like, the 4th version. Scroll down for links to previous ones.
We love you if you’re…

Here are the earlier versions, if you’re curious: first version, second, I think, original skinny one, maybe?, not sure which

I can think of a few that it feels incomplete without (and i could go on):
republican
democrat
green
independent
communist
socialist
nazi
muslim
buddhist
hindu
catholic
protestant
fundamentalist
born-again
baptist
thief
murderer
rapist
banker
executive
soldier
geek
jock
model
housewife
poly
bi-
lesbian
Didnt know the forum rules awloled such brilliant posts.
This is fun… problem-solving for love. :-)
Are you worried that a soldier or a geek or a lesbian going to think they’re not included, unless more words are added?
So when someone sent me a message saying “how about loving gay people unconditionally! My 2 cents worth!” I realized that she felt a lack there. I often forget that folks have created a sort of association between following God and hating queer people.
I thought of a doodle I’d made about us all being in this together, and imagined that it might be a good way to let people know they aren’t some sort of exception.
Then an atheist told me that he wasn’t included, and I remembered that while my original had contained “atheist”, I’d forgotten to add it to this version. So I revised the thing.
But when I look at your list I’m not seeing it as solving a problem. Do you think more terms are needed? Do nouns seem stronger than the adjectives I used?
I guess what I’m asking is whether you think there are people who not be able to find themselves in the list as it is?
I think this is a cool image both from imagining people seeing it and going, “Oh look! I’m included”, and imagining people seeing it going, “Oh my, are we really going to include *them*?!” I want everyone to feel included, and everyone to be stretched in terms of who they are willing to include. And yes, i still feel many of the terms on my list missing when i look at your (very cool) Wordle.
Wasn’t at all doing problem-solving, or trying to shift from adjectives to nouns (everything i suggested can be used as an adjective – English is marvelously flexible that way, yes?).
oh how i love you!
