Radical Love Project

The Soloist is for real

The Soloist is about crossing barriers, about reaching for love. I was guarded, worried that it would sugar-coat or romanticize the “homeless” thing. But it looks to me like they really got it right.

I walked out thinking it was perfect, and I’ve never really thought that about a movie before.

Rather than try to write a witty review (about a movie based on a book drawn from newspaper columns based on a friendship–whew!) I’ll give you some video snippets. First, the trailer. Below that, a 60-Minutes feature about the real Mr. Ayers and Mr. Lopez, the two main characters.

Thank you for sharing about Mr Ayers and Mr Lopez. I wanted to say “poor man” but while I do feel sorry for him living on the streets and with his mental illness, I wonder if this is so awful. He plays this beautiful music and obviously it helps keep his “demons” at bay. Mental illness is a terrible disease, but if a person can find an outlet a release in music,or other ways, what a blessed gift they have.
